There’s no doubt about it, living during these “Last Days” brings added stress like we’ve never seen before.  And it’s easy to neglect our emotional well-being. Above all, learning how to take care of your emotions and nurturing your mental health should be a top priority, just under nurturing your relationship with your Creator of course. Let’s look at 6 ways on how you can nurture your emotional wellness.

1. Practice Mindfulness

Nurturing your emotional health begins with being present and aware of your thoughts and feelings. Mindfulness helps you to really grow this awareness. It helps you to recognize and manage your emotions more effectively.

You can incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine in many ways. For example, make the time to focus on your breath, sit outside and block out all other sounds other than the songs of the birds or the wind in the trees, or simply engage in activities with full awareness. In other words, whether you’re eating, walking, or talking with others, practice being fully present in the moment. 

The key is giving your full attention to one thing. Remember, this definitely take practice since our minds love to wonder, but I promise it will get easier. So by not giving up, you will help reduce stress, enhance mental clarity, and develop a greater sense of happiness and contentment.

2. Express Your Feelings

Many of us find it difficult to acknowledge our emotions, whether to our selves or to others. However, it’s extremely important in learning how to nurture your emotional health. Suppressing emotions can have detrimental effects on our emotional and even physical well-being.

Instead, give yourself permission to express your feelings in healthy and constructive ways. Talk to a trusted mature friend, journal your thoughts and emotions, or do something creative like painting, playing an instrument or gardening. Writing down or expressing 3 things you’re grateful  for each day reminds us to focus on the positives in our lives.  A shift actually happens in our brain’s neural pathways when we do this. It helps to rewire our thought patterns from negative to positive, from focusing on what’s lacking to what we actually have.
